I love to read, but the older I get the harder it is to find time to sit down and crack open a book. Especially now that I work from home, it’s difficult for my to find the time to “clock out” of work and be on personal time..
I find that it’s easiest for me to read on trips because it all feels like personal time, plus when you’re on a place and wifi-less what else can you do?! I don’t know why I have it in my head that reading can only be done when all my work is over with. And let’s be honest, as an entrepreneur work is never done. So moral of the story: I have to carve out time to read and be intentional about it, even though I find plenty of time to binge on the housewives… I digress.
I love to read, it makes me so calm and it help’s me escape whatever is on my mind at the moment (and theres always about 99 things bouncing around in my head at all times). I have made it a personal goal to read before bed each night, S tries to, too! Although we definitely get our fair share of Netflix time in, theres nothing like a chapter before bed to really help turn off your mind.
I go through phases with what I enjoy reading— but the usual suspects are self-help (think more get your life together memoirs), romance, faith based or murder mysteries. Y’all already know from my posts about the best podcasts that I’m partial to true crime, too.
This summer on 30A I read ‘Leave Your Mark’ by Aliza Licht and it was AMAZING! If you are in the social media / marketing world or want to be, I highly recommend it. She goes through all the trials and triumphs of her amazing career in the fashion industry and how she basically was on the cutting edge of social media for a major fashion house— and how she… left her mark. 😉
Also this summer on that same trip (told y’all I like to read on vacation) I read a true crime autobiography about a young girl who got swept into the Charles Manson Cult, The Family. It was a really compelling story about the 70s and the hippie culture! I’m partial to podcasts about cults, too— so this book immediately peaked my interest.

I always have about three books on my nightstand— one I’m reading and two in queue. I’m not one of those people that can read multiple books at a time, my brain isn’t wired that way. I have to finish one before I can start the next, which sometimes helps me crank out a book so I can get onto the next #old.
The books currently sitting on my nightstand are: Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis, Failing Up by *** and She Reads Truth.
I’m currently in the middle of Girl, Wash Your Face, which is a hilarious novel by Rachel Hollis with a series of stories and hard (nut necessary) truths. Basically Rachel helps you realize you’re not the only one with these thoughts of inadequacy and need to perform perfectly, she speaks from the heart and makes you laugh the whole way through (while teaching you a thing or two or ten about how to go easier on yourself).
Next up is a little guy, Failing Up! It’s not too long but I have heard great things about this one… similar to the above book, I think the premise to this one is it’s only a failure if you don’t try.
She Reads Truth is one I’ve had on my nightstand awhile and I just haven’t gotten around to it. I’m not buying my next round of books until I get through this one. I study from the SRT Bible, so I am looking forward to getting to know the two creators of this community through this book.
