Summer is here and that means its time to pack your bags and head to the beach… or lake. or somewhere fun! I love a good excuse to add a couple of pieces to my summer wardrobe and vacation is at the top of that ‘good excuse’ list. While this can be a great time to select ‘tropical’ pieces, I try to keep my splurges to the basics (i.e. denim, t-shirts & sundresses) and save on the sassy picks (like a dress covered in palm leaves is totally acceptable, and I would even argue necessary under $100).

Sometimes you don’t even need to add anything crazy to your current wardrobe… maybe some fresh accessories will do the trick. This is also a great way to take your normal outfits up a notch on the vacation scale– add a fun pair of bright sandals with your normal denim + white tee combo OR spice up your sundress with some seashell baubles. My favorite trend of the summer is a perfect way to accessorize on vacation (and at home for that matter)– straw handbags like THIS one and THIS and THIS little baby!

While this is a perfect time to add to your closet, it’s an even better time to add to your beauty routine. I’m pretty fair but I love to have a nice summer glow, so sunless tanning is the way to go for me. This means I stock up on SPF and lather myself in tanning agents post shower– to give the allusion that I got a great tan at the beach that day.
